Tutorial - using Efektor Whammo with Midi Controller in 4 Daw Programs

A short tutorial in a few steps how to assign your midi controller to a track , record the pedal automation in your DAW and then play it back.

Efektor Whammo is a pitch-shifting audio plugin. You’ll experience everything from rumbling lows to squealing highs. Controllable via MIDI. To achieve pitch-shifting or pitch-bending effects, a foot controller is highly recommended.

The midi controller used in this video is: Harley Benton MP-100 MIDI Foot Controller

with connected M-Audio EX-P Expression Pedal

The controller is added in your DAW settings – midi controllers – midi devices – midi ports.

Make sure you have your MIDI Controller connected, ON, and all the drivers for the operating system have been installed, before opening your DAW!

Cubase 12
1. Click on Studio: Studio Setup:
2. On the left side of the window, click on “MIDI Port Setup”
3. Make sure the “Visible” option is checked on the desired MIDI controller

Studio One
1. Click on the Configure External Devices link in the Setup area on the Start page to launch the External Devices window.

2. Click the Add button. This will launch the Add Device window.

3. From the menu on the left, select your MIDI controller from the list of manufacturers and models. If you do not see your MIDI controller listed, select New Keyboard. At this point, you can customize the name of your keyboard by entering the manufacturer and device names.

4. You must specify which MIDI channels will be used to communicate with this keyboard. For most purposes, you should select all MIDI channels. If you are unsure of which MIDI channels to choose, select all 16.

5. Studio One allows you to filter out specific control functions. If you would like Studio One to ignore After-touch, Pitch Bend, Program Change, or all CC messages, enable filtering for any or all of these messages.

6. In the Receive From drop-down menu, select the MIDI interface input from which Studio One will receive MIDI data (that is, the MIDI input port to which your keyboard is connected). In the Send To drop-down menu, select the MIDI interface output from which your Studio One will send MIDI data to your keyboard. If your keyboard controller doesn’t need to receive MIDI data from Studio One, you can leave this un-selected!

Reaper

1. Open Reaper, choose Options then Preferences. In the left side menu, look under Audio for MIDI Devices. If you don’t see any devices listed, click the Reset all MIDI devices button in the window’s lower right corner. Your MIDI device will initially be disabled. Right-click to enable it.

2. On your track, click the Arm Track button, then Inputs.

3. Click Input: MIDI, choose your MIDI Device, then choose All Channels. Next to the Arm Track button, there is a speaker icon. This is the Record Monitoring button. Hover over and turn it on.

Samplitude
