A multiband compressor allows you to compress frequencies like the lows, mids and highs individually. Multiband compression is a great tool for taming fluctuations within specific frequency ranges, and it offers more control than simply removing or boosting frequencies with an equalizer. In this tutorial, mixing and mastering engineer Mario Borgotta demonstrates multiband compression using the Waves multiband compressor on a track he’s mixing called "OVER IT!" by koby. He works to make the individual instruments dance and compliment each other, while also providing evenness within their frequency ranges. These techniques will work within any DAW and multiband compressor plugin you like to use.
