For producers who mix their own tracks, we wanted to give a real-world look into how professional mix engineers go about the mixing process. We worked with longtime Output collaborator, mixing and mastering engineer Mario Borgotta, to create a series that explores mixing from an industry pro’s perspective. In this series of five videos, he covers what he believes are the most important techniques to achieving a professional-sounding mix—how the mix bus can immediately elevate your track, how the drum bus glues all the percussive elements together, how low-end cleanup removes muddiness, how multiband compression gets your instruments to dance, and how to really polish a pop lead vocal.
